Gaming update

This month is an interesting month as I have a lot on my plate... as in, I actually got some stuff done!

  • I (incredibly) got off my butt and actually started a 5 Klicks from the Zone campaign! However, instead of starting with an 8-person squad, I started off with my solo character and I'll see how many squad members I can collect/recruit before I make it to a safe place (called “home” in game terms). So far, I’m 3 campaign turns into the game and I managed to recruit one squad member! The write-up will follow, but here's proof I actually played a game.
  • Another game I showcased last month was Sector AL-IX, where I showed off my 3D printed terrain. Last week, I got all my 3D resin printed minis back from the printing service and with all my terrain and ship (one) printed and partially painted up, all that’s left for me to do is to paint up the minis and I’m ready to play my first game. How exciting!
  • I know I keep saying I’ll get around to play this game eventually for the past 2-3 years now… but this time I REALLY mean it! So the following is actual photographic proof I got off my butt and am doing something about it! I do need to 3D print some suitable terrain before I can play though, but that’s not the hardship it once was with the Ender. All I need to do now is wait for my replacement 0.4mm hotend to arrive! That game? Battlespace! (Photo is of various plastic 1/72 scale minis I got off eBay just prior to Covid, IRRC).
  • Lastly, one of the very rare physical Kickstarters I backed in 2024 actually delivered on time! The pledge has arrived… it’s just not in my hands at the moment! So this is probably the game that will not hit the table this semester. I’m still incredibly excited to play it, though so while waiting I can still print up some suitable terrain, actually 3D print some suitable minis and see which happens first: a 3D printed game… or me getting my hands on my actual physical game. The game is Port Royal (or, to give it its full title: Port Royal: An Adventure Skirmish Miniature Game Set in The Searover's Caribbean). It's a smaller skirmish sized game based on Blood & Plunder. Avast, mateys, there be plunder on the horizon!

And that’s all the news I’ve got for this week’s update. Happy gaming!
