What's next for 2026?

 .

This post has been slightly delayed due to real life and also me wanting to get a quick unboxing video in.

Yes, videos are a thing again and a major announcement will be at the bottom.

First up, the plan for 2026 is to play several tabletop skirmish games that’s been on the list for some time, a new game and some old ones that need some love.

The main project for early 2026 is Guards of Traitor’s Toll! Yes, I finally got the starter in my hot, grubby hands and I must say the size and shape of the box was a surprise. It’s basically a show box to fit the model sprues and the A5 rulebook plus some bespoke dice and cared and tokens. My thoughts are in the video below so I’ll say no more.

I have some interest from my gaming group so I’m rushing the assembly of the models. They are fairly quick to assemble thank goodness and quick to paint since they don’t have a lot of fussy details like GW minis.

One aspect that will slow me down a bit is cutting off those built-in bubble bases so I can stick the minis on to acrylic bases instead. It is a pain... but not as painful as actually building up the bases for the minis. Wargames Atlantic have an interesting base design that I actually like (if making bases was still my thing). The bases are dual purpose: flip the base over for a standard traditional 25mm base... or use the reverse side for minis with puddle bases OR if you want to make bespoke terrain for your bases. The slight "pizza dish" indent will allow you to build up the terrain without making your mini unduly tall. The little hole in the middle is for those folks who like to magnetise their bases for easy transport.

I need to build 2 sets of guards though. For a 2 player game you’d need about 6 per side. For solo you’d need more… around 8-9. They are pretty quick to assemble and paint. I can get 6 done in one full afternoon and night of focused, concentrated effort ... which only comes rarely, darn it.

The other issue is that Wargames Atlantic tend to make their minis more on the true 28mm scale so they don’t work well with heroic 28 or 32mm minis. Which is a pity because I have a TON of Reaper townsfolk minis from their Black??? Kickstarter that I can use instead of assembling the minis from the game.

My other option is to 3D print the guards minis to a scale that’s compatible with the Reaper minis so I can get on with painting and not waste time assembling. Oh well.

After that, the plan is also to play Full Spectrum Dominance by The Lazy Forger. It’s a 6mm sci-fi game and is a digital-only game.

I already have a 40pt force printed out. Just need to quickly prime them and print out some terrain. Not so easy as the STL files aren’t optimised for FDM printing but rather resin printing. It will take some fiddling to print with FDM.

The game SEEMS fun and the initial investment isn’t high. Especially when you can get the 30% discount the game’s creator runs very so often in conjunction with the usual MymInifactory sales tat seem to occur 2 or 3 times a year.

Watch this space, as another guy in my gaming group already has his force printed and painted.

There is a solo mode featuring an enemy AI faction but I haven’t picked it up yet because I’ve yet to play the main game.

Two more games on the schedule are Sector AL-IX and my Star Wars themed Pulp Alley campaigns that I started in 2025. Both are currently stalled because I need to get some more minis painted. Sigh.

Also I FINALLY cracked open my Warhammer Quest Cursed City box that I picked up last year for a decent price (one of the guys in my gaming group decided to let his go) and am now assembling the minis concurrent with Traitor’s Toll. I was pushed into this with the release of WHQ Darkwater which… from some reports on BGG has decent gameplay and seems to be an improvement over Cursed City. I got Cursed City for the minis of course because I wanted to use them in minis agnostic skirmish games. I like the look of the minis in the game and having lots of undead is always a plus.

Finally, FINALLY ….

As alluded to in the beginning… my YouTube channel is alive again! I finally decided to bite the bullet and upgrade my phone so I can actually get good-looking video. This took a MASSIVE bite out of my gaming budget so there will be no more new games for 2026 (haha).

I also need to buy some new accessories to aid in making the videos because my old accessories don’t fit the new phone. This is a major downside to buying gear that is locked to one specific model of phone and one specific company. Very expensive error.

Now, all gear I buy moving forward will be phone-agnostic and can be used with any model phone. Never again will I lock myself in again like that!

HOWEVER…

This now means I do need some help from you folks. Getting a new phone in my current country of residence (as opposed to my home country) is more expensive due to the higher tax rate. Why didn’t I just get a phone in my current country of residence? Well, the government here has decided for some reason to TAX all phones brought into the country from another country. Even for personal use. Tourists get a 30-day free pass. But if you want to use the phone for more than 30 days you need to pay the tax or the phone will be bricked by blocking the phone’s IMEI. (Very technical jargon).

I’ve explored all avenues but in the end I finally bit the bullet and got myself the new phone… thankfully I am now able to pay for the phone in instalments rather than pay it all in one go. However, that, plus my having to get the new phone-agnostic gear means my finances are strained… which comes back round to you all.

I’ve never done this blog for money, but more for fun as a hobby as you all know. Hopefully I’ve given enough entertainment and useful info through the years…. Which brings me round to … Ko-fi.

I’ve registered an account with Ko-fi. It seems to be the least avaricious and simplest of Patreon-like clones and they only take a 5% cut. Ko-fi is also simple because it allows you to donate any amount you want starting from a minimum of $1 to … well, any amount. It also allows for monthly donations if there are folks who find value in my blog.

I’m not sure (unlike Patreon) what perks I can provide for folks who do want to donate monthly (if any) which is why I’m not pushing that. I don’t like to lock my stuff behind a paywall. However, any suggestions you can give me are welcome.

What this means is I will DEFINITELY be making videos again and my commitment is a minimum of one video a month up to a max of two. I know I can’t produce a video a week so I’m not even going to go there.

The Ko-fi link is below and any and all donations will be gratefully accepted. Please don’t feel you have to donate. The content will always remain free and available to everyone. I do apologise that Ko-fi is PayPal only. I can't create a Stripe account due to my nationality and also the tax laws in my country. Sigh.
