2025 Top 10 Solo Skirmish Games #02

In the end, I went with Five Klicks From the Zone for my #02 just because of the sheer potential of this game to deliver both a great campaign and an engaging emergent story that's typical of the 5 X from Y games series.

In what seems to be a common refrain for me, I've had the PDF for this game sitting in my drive for a long while now as I played its more well known brethren 5 Parsecs and 5 Leagues.

Well, no more! Thanks to Necromunda and 3D printing, I finally have the inspiration and enough post-apocalyptic minis to actually play this game as it's meant to be played.

And it's a lot of fun as all the 5 X from Y games are.

This game has you building up your settlement in a post-apocalyptic world and I might one day print out the STL I bought of a massive trailer to have that be my settlement instead of the standard, static location a settlement seems to imply. I got that idea off a YouTube video and I'm sticking to it, which is why my 5 Klicks mini intro campaign came to an end when I reached the settlement.

It's minis agnostic and you only need a few minis to play. I'd recommend at least 2 in your crew though the game usually starts with 6 or more unless you want to do it the way I did and slowly build up your warband.

Get it quickly while it's still on sale at Wargame Vault and before the Modiphius overlords give this the deluxified treatment as well. (That said, this game has languished compared to Parsecs and Leagues so that might not be a bad thing after all as it seems to have been overlooked so far although I know this game is on Ivan's radar to upgrade in the future.)

Next: our #01 is an old time favourite. See if you can work out what it is. If not, you'll know tomorrow! 😅
