I was playing Imperial Assault with my son, (co-op) using the app and we had a blast. We’d completed the tutorial and are now working our way through the Flight of the Freedom Fighter campaign.
Digging out the Imperial Assault minis and seeing the UNpainted ones reminded me I have a Pulp Alley campaign waiting to be played... waiting because as usual (altogether now) "I want to paint them before playing!"
It will be a re-skin of the China Station campaign, rethemed to the Bosche Station Campaign.
I think I’ll set it in the interregnum of the Fall of the Empire and the Alliance is attempting to set up a functioning galactic governing body post-Return of the Jedi.
This makes it the same era (very very roughly) as The Mandalorian. So don’t be surprised if a certain warrior wearing Beskar armour with a little frog hostage in tow shows up.
My crew are a bunch of freelancers, doing whatever it takes to survive.
They’ve been hired by the New Republic in the Outer Rim and tasked with retrieving Code 3-2-7 for study or questioning — but first they must determine what or who is Code 3-2-7. Their destination is the planet Tatooine.
Urgent transmission - A vital asset coded "Code 3-2-7" was lost in the aftermath of a skirmish near the ***** relay outpost. Recovery of Code 3-2-7 is critical for New Republic security efforts.
I’ve been busy painting my minis and so far have finished about 14. (If some of the minis look a bit underdone - I'm looking at you, Jabba - that's because using AP Quickshade Dip requires a lighter colour scheme and the Dip itself will fill in all the details.)
The following are still in the process of being painted. Ben Kenobi is of course superfluous in this timeline since he died in Part IV but what the heck. I can still use him for the main Imperial Assault campaigns.
And I’ve a few more civilians I need to paint for one of the missions.
Now, normally I’d paint only the minis I require to play a specific mission, then continue painting new ones as and when I need them.
The problem with my Imperial Assault minis is I used a specific technique way back when I began painting the core box: Normal acrylic paints (no Speed/Contrast paints back then), then doused with Army Painter Quickshade Dip (the sticky lacquer-like liquid). I now need to continue with this so there’s a consistent look throughout all my SW: IA minis.
TL; DR: Quickshade Dip is simply a huge PITA to use and clean up afterwards.
Sigh.
So… I’m pushing myself to get through the painting, and hope to get them done by the end of the month so I can play the first mission of Bosche Station.
